The Date p.1

Trying to get caught up on my goal to finish a comic page each week. This is part one of a short (4-6 page) portfolio piece called "The Date". I'm not terribly happy with this one, I've redrawn this page many times, playing with different layouts and drawing techniques. I've been sitting on this for a while and I just need to move on to page two at this point.

Composer Series - John Zorn's Cobra "Snake Charmer"

I did these a while ago. First subject part of my series pairing a composer with an animal somehow associated with their music. This is John Zorn, playing sax for a cobra.

His work "Cobra" is the culmination of years of experimenting on rules for "game pieces" where a prompter cues large ensembles of musicians in organized improvisations. Every performance of the piece is drastically different depending on the players and the cues.

Commissions!

Scribblog now has a Pay Pal gadget that allows you to purchase a digital sketch of any character, creature or random thing you want (keep it PG-13). During payment, make sure you include a description of what you want me to draw int he "note to seller" box. There are currently three options: $5 for a black and white sketch (line art), $10 for an illustration with flat colors and $20 for a fully rendered digital painting. The final art will be posted on this blog. If you have a special request that doesn't fit into the payment options, let me know and we will work something out. Below are examples of the first two options. Also check out the previous post for an example of $10 and $20 options.

Elephant Girl

While taking the dog for a walk I saw some buttercups in tall grass that inspired me to paint this.

But of course, that was a little boring, so I decide to add a girl with an elephant head. I've always liked collage and briefly considered just doing the whole thing as a collage, but decided it would be better practice to draw it.

I'm not sure how these things happen. Someone at work had asked me to draw an elephant the other day, but what that has to do with the flowers is beyond me.
